The Walls

A little history
The whole walled de Cuéllar is one of the most important of Castilla y León. His defensive system consists of two campuses, a higher, more fortified, and a lower, more urban, provided both barbican. Its construction may date from the second and final restocking de Cuéllar by Alfonso VI in 1085, although there is no documentary evidence of their existence until 1264. The walls are completed to build and reform over the twelfth century to the sixteenth, highlighting its importance by the works carried out by the second Duke of Alburquerque on the year 1500.
In the late twentieth century, public administrations and especially the City Council, work has been undertaken to consolidate and restore some sections among which we can highlight the door of St. Basilio, the canvas next to the "Huerta del Duque", access to the fairgrounds, the door of the Jewish quarter and the New Street, among others.
The Project
1 .- building and stabilizing the walls is considered a priority issue the wholesale consolidation of all existing paintings, in order to preserve as much as possible everything that we have come to today's defensive set, determining the work needed to stop the accelerated degradation suffered some stretches.
2 .- Restoration of canvases and its elements much of facing the walls, including arches and towers with surface finishes badly degraded or inappropriate, it is necessary to poceder restoration.
3 .- Making value of the paintings addition to consolidate and restore the elements still remain, the walls of Cuéllar require interventions held in high esteem both in their canvases understood individually, and the group formed by a succession of linear paintings, towers and doors, setting up two original precincts closed.
4 .- Making value of the package is intended to work to earn a group of canvases isolated as a series of walls, damaged by the fragmentation of canvases, gates and towers in isolated areas with greater or lesser importance, which aims to return to achieve unity and give the perception of being inside or outside the walled enclosure. This will require rebuilding volumes and missing elements, thereby achieving the look of the original ramparts de Cuéllar.
